ASGHAR FARHADI

Rahim is in prison because of a debt he was unable to repay. During a two-day leave, he tries to convince his creditor to withdraw his complaint against the payment of part of the sum. But things don't go as planned.

Werner Herzog on the bestowal of the award:

Asghar Farhadi is arguably the most outstanding filmmaker from Iran. Farhadi has received two Oscars for Best Foreign Language Film, making him one of the few directors worldwide who have won the category twice. He also received the Cannes Film Festival Award for Best Screenplay for his film The Salesman. In 2021, he received the Cannes Film Festival's Grand Prix for his film A Hero.

He also got highest accolades as scriptwriter and, also interesting, the actress Bérénice Bejo starring in his film The Past won the Best Actress Award at Cannes for her performance in the film. I am very much looking forward to the meeting and discussion with Asghar Farhadi following the screening of his film in Munich.
